Woodwind and Brass Faculty

Lucy has had a varied musical career over 35 years, studying clarinet, saxophone, and flute. She has performed and recorded with various ensembles, including orchestras, jazz bands, and musical theatre companies.
Since 2009, Lucy has taught music and prepared students for exams with the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and the Royal Conservatory of Music. Lucy regularly performs with the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and other local ensembles, and she also works as a woodwind clinician in schools, sharing her passion for music with students of all ages.Lucy appreciates the challenges of learning a new instrument - reinforced by her latest project as a beginning cello student!

Rhiannon Jones is a Kelowna-based teacher and musician who offers flute lessons for all ages and levels within a supportive and fun learning environment.
Rhiannon graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor’s in Music and a Minor in Business from the University of Victoria. She has studied flute under the guidance of Christine Moore, principal flute for the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra, Mark McGregor and Dr. Suzanne Snizek at the University of Victoria. She has also participated in masterclasses with Susan Hoeppner, Lorna McGhee and Christie Reside.

Christine Moore is a freelance orchestral, chamber, and solo flutist. She was Principal Flute of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra (OSO) from 2011-2022 and an OSO section player since 2006. She also has performed with Opera Kelowna, Cirque Musica, Lakewinds Trio and more.
Christine has 40 years experience teaching flutists, from 8-80 years old, from beginner to advanced players. Many of her former students have gone on to pursue flute studies in university.
Christine’s approach to teaching is to “meet the student where they are." Students may choose to follow a community track of study or participate in Royal Conservatory of Music exams. Whether a student is brand new to the flute or returning after years of not playing, Christine’s primary goal is to help her students incorporate flute playing into their lives for the love of the instrument, health, and personal fulfillment.

A lifelong musician, when Karmen Doucette discovered the bassoon at age fourteen, she knew she was on the right path. After pursuing her post-secondary degrees in music, Karmen began performing professionally with ensembles throughout Alberta, Texas, Ontario, and British Columbia. She's been the Principal Bassoon of the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra since 2011, and she also performs regularly with her quartet, Kitchen Sink Pocket Orchestra.
Karmen’s teaching emphasizes strong fundamentals, healthy technique, and expressive musicality. She adapts her approach to each student’s learning style, and her goal is to help students build confidence, independence, and curiosity in their musical growth.
Karmen is proud to have been part of the KCMS community since 2014 and values the school’s dedication to nurturing young musicians. She is inspired by the energy students bring to their lessons and feels privileged to support their growth.

Tim Watson received a Bachelor of Music degree in Performance (Trumpet) from the University of Toronto.
Following this he spent several years freelancing in Ontario, and two years as Musician in Residence with Sudbury Symphony, Laurentian University and Cambrian College in Sudbury as a performer/teacher/coach

Zeena Zaiyouna is an orchestral conductor, oboist, pianist, clinician and educator. Together with a Master of Lifelong Learning (M. Ed.) from Denmark and a degree in oboe performance from Queen's University, Zeena has served as the Assistant Conductor of the Ontario Pops Orchestra and has taught music and performance at all levels of the school system. This includes directing the Symphonic Band for the Canadian Independent Music School Festival (2019) at Roy Thomson Hall.
As an arts advocate for youth leadership and mental health, Zeena has trained teachers on four continents, sharing innovative aspects of play-based learning and trauma-focused arts programming. Zeena is the Conductor of the Okanagan Symphony Youth Orchestra and works as a clinician, studio musician, and ensemble teacher in the Okanagan Valley.
